Products recalled over safety fears
Saturday May 16 2009
A CARBON monoxide alarm that doesn't sound, a toy deckchair that could injure children, and a candle holder that could catch fire have all been recalled by suppliers in Ireland.
Tests on the Lloytron Model B822 carbon monoxide alarm revealed that it fails to sound when exposed to unsafe levels of the killer gas.
Lloytron Plc said the fault had been identified through their quality control testing.
A small number of the alarms had been sold in Ireland between September 2007 and November 2008. Lloytron asked customers to remove the unit from use immediately and return it to the store where it was bought or to contact them at info@lloytron.com
Meanwhile, the Build-a-Bear Workshop is carrying out a voluntary recall of its toy beach chair after eight injuries were reported in the United States.
Around 260 of these were sold in Ireland between March and August 2008 from Dundrum Town Centre or online.
The toy chair was found to be hazardous because it could bruise, pinch or cut fingers if they got caught between its folding legs.
Purchasers were asked to return the toy deckchair to the Dundrum store in return for a €10 voucher or visit www.buildabear.co.uk
Texas department store in Cloncollig, Tullamore, Co Offaly, recalled two different coloured candle holders.
There was a risk that when the tealight candles burned in them for a few minutes the decorative bedding could catch fire.
Texas advised consumers to return them immediately to their store for a full refund.
The National Consumer Agency released details of the recalls yesterday.
