Piano Spectacular brings back seven winners to mark 25th anniversary

Sunday January 29 2012

Piano Spectacular, a seven-piano extravaganza, will light up the NCH on Thursday, February 2, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dublin International Piano Competition. The evening will feature six previous winners returning to join artistic director John O'Conor.

The performers are: Philippe Cassard, Pavel Neressian, Davide Franceschetti, Max Levinson, Alexei Nabioulin and Romain Descharmes. Tickets are available at www.nch.ie

Maire Carroll, 20, of Malahide, Co Dublin (above, second from left), is one of the finalists in this year's competition, the preliminary stages of which will be held in the RDS, Dublin, from May 4 to May 10.

The cream of Irish music will pay tribute this evening to the legendary Pecker Dunne, one of the greatest musicians produced by the Travelling community.

Now in his late 70s, it was often said that the Pecker played at more Munster finals than Cork.

Healthwise it's been a difficult few years, and the benefit night at Dublin City Hall at 5pm this evening will help with respite and other care that he now needs, according to organiser Mannix Flynn, who is running the event in conjunction with TradFest.

Among those appearing tonight will be Tony McMahon, Steve Cooney, actor Stephen Rea, Lisa O'Neill, Jinx Lennon and Paddy Casey. Tickets cost €20.
