THE final body from the Tit Bonhomme has been recovered from the sea in Cork. The father of Egyptian deckhand Saied Ali Eldi had held a vigil on the pier since the trawler sank a month ago.

A team of divers found the body of Egyptian deckhand Saied Ali Eldin close to where the Tit Bonhomme went down on January 15, claiming five lives.

The 23-year-old was the last crew member to be recovered in Glandore Bay, off west Cork.

A Coast Guard team is due to take his body to shore at Union Hall, where his father, Mohammed Ibrahim, who is a fisherman, has maintained a vigil at Union Hall pier since January 15 for his son.

The Tit Bonhomme sank after hitting Adam's Island at the entrance to Glandore Bay in stormy seas on the way back to shore after a three-day prawn fishing trip.

There was one survivor, Egyptian fisherman Abdul Mohammed.

The bodies of three other crew members - Kevin Kershaw, 21, originally from Dublin but who had been living in Clonakilty and was on his first deep sea fishing trip, and Egyptians Attea Shaban, 26, and Wael Mohammed, 35 - were recovered in the following days.

The body of skipper Michael Hayes, brother of Bandon-based Superintendent Tom Hayes, was discovered on Wednesday.

Irish Coast Guard units, Civil Defence teams and local volunteers continued their search for the missing deckhand.

A Garda spokesman said the body will be formally identified when a post-mortem examination is carried out.

THE family of Michael Hayes had vowed to continue the search until the body of Saied Ali Eldin was found.

Members of the Hayes family continued to take part in renewed searches of Glandore Bay for Mr Eldin's remains.

The search included Mr Hayes's brothers, Tom and Nicky, his sister, Sr Ann, and his wife, Caitlin.

Ann Hayes said their thoughts and prayers were now with the Eldin family.

"We are very conscious of Saied's father (Mohammed) who has been on the pier with us every day. He has been waiting for the same news," she said.
