Outrage at RTE over lack of Kennedy coverage
Sunday August 30 2009
RTE, the state broadcaster, received up to a dozen complaints for failing to break into its schedule to broadcast the funeral of Senator Ted Kennedy. The funeral was broadcast live on Sky News and BBC News 24, but a number of people felt it was "disgraceful" that RTE failed to cover the event, at which Taoiseach Brian Cowen was present.
A spokeswoman for RTE said yesterday that 10 complaint calls had been received by the station's information office and a couple had been received by the newsroom. She said that the funeral was given extensive coverage during their news broadcasts, but the decision was taken not to break into its normal schedule.
