Online insurance firm to create 100 sales jobs in capital

DUBLIN's hi-tech hub has received another boost with the creation of 100 jobs in online insurance sales.

Internet firm Chill Insurance will recruit for 50 new positions this year and the remainder over the following two years at its base in Blackrock.

But the jobs announcement came as fears grew for up to 120 jobs at Finglas-based printing firm Amcor Flexibles.

Workers said they were called into meetings yesterday and told the food-packaging plant, whose clients included Mars, would close.

Meanwhile, Chill Insurance's recruitment drive follows a series of jobs announcements at hi-tech firms in the last few months.

The jobs are in sales and open are to candidates with insurance experience as it expands its call centre and offers a wider range of insurance products. Chill.ie is the internet division of insurance broker Power Lynch and Associates, which is 40 years old.

Chief Operations Officer Ann Moylan said it expected internet business to double this year as shoppers sought cheaper insurance deals. The company employs 60 staff.

ICT Ireland, which represents employers in the hi-tech sector, said the online insurance provider's expansion was a "very positive" announcement.

It said 850 jobs had been created in the hi-tech sector since January.

The new jobs come in the wake of recent hi-tech job announcements at Intel, Fidelity Investments, PayPal, and Hibernia College.
