One ticket scoops €2m Lotto jackpot
ONE ticket last night scooped a Lotto jackpot of €2m. The numbers were 3, 5, 21, 31, 32 and 43. The bonus was 4.
There was no winner of the top €350,000 prize in the Lotto Plus 1. The numbers were 11, 14, 19, 24, 36 and 38. The bonus was 35.
There was no winner of the top €250,000 prize in the Lotto Plus 2. The numbers were 3, 11, 13, 22, 25 and 30. The bonus was 43.
Worker killed at rugby ground
A construction worker was killed in a building site accident in yesterday.
The accident happened at Galway Sportsground where a new gym is being built for Connacht Rugby.
The victim, who was in his 20s and from Co Mayo, is understood to have been struck by a steel girder, sustaining fatal head injuries.
Man in court over cannabis seizure
A MAN will face a court today in connection with the seizure of €8m worth of cannabis resin found in a container as it was leaving a ferry.
The 27-year-old, from Cork, will be brought before Gorey District Court in Co Wexford. A 20-year-old woman who was also arrested when the 40ft container was stopped by customs officers as it left Rosslare port on Monday was released without charge.
New taxpayers' watchdog named
Tanaiste Brian Cowen will this morning announce a new taxpayers' watchdog.
The appointment to the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General will be John Buckley. He will replace John Purcell who will retire from the post on May 14. Mr Buckley already holds a senior position in the C&AG's office where he is in charge of value for money examinations.
Taoiseach urged to re-route M3
Bertie Ahern has been asked to re-route the M3 motorway away from the Hill of Tara as one of his last acts in office.
A petition containing almost 40,000 names was handed into the Department of the Taoiseach which urged him to reconsider the route of the Co Meath motorway which, it is claimed, could destroy heritage.
Fans warned to get vaccinations
Irish football fans bound for Austria and Switzerland to see the Euro 2008 tournament were yesterday urged to ensure they are vaccinated against measles.
The Health Protection Surveillance Centre issued the warning saying there have been major outbreaks of the disease in both countries.
