On the run Gardai's marathon stretch for charity
Monday September 07 2009
The boys and girls in blue are going on the run in Chicago -- but it's all in a good cause.
The 'Great Garda Run 2009' will take place in Chicago on Sunday, October 11.
A total of 150 officers, who are all paying their own way to the Windy City, will run the Chicago Marathon in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation.
Participants will be joined at the event by Ronan Keating and former world champion Eamonn Coghlan.
All members of the team will personally fund all expenses incurred in the trip and every cent raised will go directly to the cancer charity.
The 150 officers are aiming to raise over €250,000 which will be used to purchase, resource and maintain a cancer mobile information unit to aid the early detection of cancer.
In last year's Great Garda Run, 85 officers ran the Paris Marathon and they raised more than €115,000 for the charity Goal.
