O'Keeffe is accused of 'stalling' on job creation
THE new minister in charge of jobs was under fire last night over his plan to create 117,000 jobs -- by 2020.
Batt O'Keeffe wants a panel of business people and senior civil servants to decide whether to act on recommendations many of them made themselves.
Fine Gael spokeswoman on innovation Deirdre Clune said the minister should just "get on with it". She accused the minister of stalling, saying that many of the members of the taskforce charged with turning the country into a hub of innovative enterprises, which reported two months ago, are also on the new Implementation Body.
"Why doesn't the minister just do it, and act on the report," asked Ms Clune.
"This is a report that was only released two months ago. Why is it now being reviewed by a committee, many of whom were on the taskforce itself?
"The Innovation Taskforce recommendations need to be implemented, not bogged down with unnecessary delays."
