No case will be forgotten, vows garda chief

GARDA chiefs around the country have been instructed by the head of the force to carry out regular assessments of investigations into murders and missing persons in their areas.
Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy said yesterday he did not want the family of any victim to feel that they had been forgotten.
"We will continue to investigate and re-investigate these cases," he promised.
He said he had told his officers in every division that he wanted these cases to be constantly reviewed and, where possible, inquiries progressed.
The Commissioner was commenting on the latest developments in the search for the body of missing Offaly woman, Fiona Pender and the hunt for the killer of Marie Kilmartin.
The latest arrests in the Kilmartin case came as a result of a fresh examination of the file.
The search for Fiona Pender's body in the Slieve Bloom area is a follow-on from previous searches carried out there during the early summer when a wooden cross was found.
Neither development was linked to a review of old murder files by the special cold case review team or Operation Trace, which was set up to examine the deaths of six women in the eastern part of the country.
