GARDAI appealed to the public for help in tracking down a post officer raider who panicked during an armed robbery and fled empty-handed.

The lone raider went into Grenagh post office in Blarney, Co Cork, on Wednesday February 25 at 2.13pm armed with a handgun and demanded money from the postmaster. But he lost his nerve and ran away.

Wild land blazes stretch fire units

WILD land fires placed fire services under "severe pressure" as the country experienced a spell of dry weather last week.

Every available fire unit in Kerry was called out on Sunday night to fight fires in the Killorglin, Tralee, and Listowel areas. Many of the fires were started deliberately in the mistaken belief that burning makes the land more fertile. In fact, it depletes the land as well as destroying rare plants, according to fire officers.
