Naked Cowboy here to give recession the boot
Sunday January 25 2009
ADVICE on how to beat the recession has come from the unlikeliest of places.
The Naked Cowboy, now world famous for playing his guitar in Times Square wearing nothing but his hat, boots and underwear, has jetted in to offer the despondent Irish public advice on how to beat the credit crunch.
The famous street performer, who went from living on the streets to raking in an estimated $8m from his simple idea, has called on gloomy workers to stop wasting energy wallowing in the downturn and start taking responsibility for their future. "Just do something you love and find a way to make money from it. All you've got to do is sit down with a pen and paper and decide where you want to go from here." The New York cowboy, aka Robert Burck, got the idea one day while on a photo shoot on Venice Beach for Playboy.
He is now the third biggest attraction in New York.
"The first day I started playing, no one listened. The next day I played in my underwear and I earned $40, then I moved to New York and I wrote 'tips' on my boots and people started stuffing dollars into them and I earned $600. I've been going back to Times Square ever since, earning $1,000 a day for four hours work."
Burck, who has a degree in political science and a Masters in Business, is in Ireland to launch Irish Entrepreneur magazine's 'You Can Do Anything' campaign.
The competition is offering a prize of €250,000 'for you and your business'. The competition is open to the first 25,000 new subscribers to Irish Entrepreneur Magazine as well as existing subscribers. All profits are being donated to the ISPCC.
