Musician Corr joins fight to save hospital services
Friday November 13 2009
Singer Jim Corr of the internationally renowned band The Corrs lent his voice to 'Let the Louth Hospital Live' campaign last night in a march in Dundalk.
The star, who was born at the Louth County Hospital, echoed the call to retain the acute medical, accident and emergency and intensive-care services and urged that the children and maternity wards that had closed be restored.
Another speaker compared the situation to the sinking of the Titanic, with the children and women "got rid of" and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital -- where it is planned to transfer services -- not having enough room to accommodate patients.
Sinn Fein TD Arthur Morgan pledged that the march was only the start of the campaign, and that the group would be seeking a meeting with Health Minister Mary Harney.
