Taoiseach Brian Cowen said his government is taking "resolute action" to overcome Ireland’s economic and financial crisis.
“We’ve already made significant corrections this year,” Cowen told the Global Irish Economic Forum in Dublin today. “We’ll take further difficult decisions required and we also have to deliver economic recovery by doing so.”
The government announced this week it plans to spend €54bn buying real-estate loans to purge the country’s financial system of toxic assets.
The “necessary budget action” Ireland must take in December will help deliver economic recovery, Cowen said.
