Libertas gets on the phones to canvass 100,000 households
LIBERTAS will contact over 100,000 households nationwide in the next six weeks as part of a major new phone canvassing operation.
The calls from the party's 'phone bank' will be made by 15 full-time 'genuine volunteers' who will receive no expenses or payment, the organisation said.
The party has devoted 'some resources, not a huge amount' to the operation in Ardee, Co Louth, where Libertas candidate Raymond O'Malley is based.
In an Irish Independent interview last month, Libertas chief Declan Ganley said the party would spend "many tens of millions" on running hundreds of candidates across Europe in a bid to win in excess of 100 seats on June 5.
Last night, a Libertas spokesman said the only costs arising from the operation concerned the phone bill, rent of the premises and lunch provided to volunteers.
"We've negotiated a deal on the land-line with Eircom. I don't know how much it will cost," he said.
"I wouldn't say you would be looking at much more than €10,000 upwards of a phone bill. It's cost- effective."
