IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY
THE TRAGIC deaths of a mother and daughter were among eight road deaths in the past week, pushing this year's total to 69.
Josephine Cormack, 38, and her daughter Marie, 11, of Galbally, Co Limerick died when their car hit a jeep at Monard, Co Tipperary. Mrs Cormack, who had four children, was pronounced dead at the scene. Marie died in Our Lady's Hospital, Cashel.
Barry Grieve, 42, from Claudy, Co Derry, was killed on Sunday when his jeep went out of control at a bend in the road on the road to Carndonagh, on the outskirts of Buncrana, Co Donegal. He was on his way home from work when the accident happened. David Coyle, a 32-year-old from Naas, Co Kildare, died when his car hit a stone pier at Skeheenarinky, just outside Cahir, Co Tipperary, later that same morning. Owen Lehane, 26, of Dunmanway, Co Cork, died when his car went off the road at Annabeg, Ballinhassig, Co Cork. He was driving from Bandon to Cork city.
Two pedestrians also died last week. Kieran McCann, a 32-year-old butcher from Belleeks, Newry, Co Down, died when he was struck by a minibus a mile north of Drogheda, Co Louth. The accident happened at 4:30am on Monday.
Con Bannon, 52, from Littleton, Thurles, Co Tipperary died when he was knocked down by a vehicle as he walked along a secondary road close to his home.
And Trevor Kinsella, 18, of Blessington, Co Wicklow, was killed in a freak accident as he was helping out on a refuse disposal truck on Thursday morning.
