It doesn't add up, say young protesters
A FLAGSHIP Allied Irish Bank branch was yesterday transformed into the venue for an impromptu maths class.
A group of around 10 primary school children and 20 anti-bailout protesters set up a temporary classroom in the lobby of AIB on South Mall, Cork.
The youngsters, who came from a number of schools in the Fermoy area, were the children of members of the 'Occupy' campaign.
They were treated to a 40-minute basic maths class by teacher Robbie Hamilton.
"The bank officials were very good. They just asked politely when we would be finishing up," Mr Hamilton said.
The protest was mounted by anti-bailout campaigners from Fermoy who also led the 'Take the Shirt off my Back' protest outside the Dail last month.
Campaigner Cian O'Meara said the aim was to remind Irish people of where national priorities should rest. "Our priority should be the future education of our children and not protecting banks and investors who took a gamble and lost," he said.
