Irish legends descend on Glasgow
Saturday November 21 2009
No sooner is the Homecoming done and dusted than the annual Celtic Connections festival follows in its wake. It takes place every January around Glasgow, from the Royal Concert Hall to the Old Fruitmarket.
This winter, the Irish contingent fetching up in the town includes the likes of Glen Hansard and his Swell Season, Lisa Hannigan, Adrian Crowley, Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh, Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, Maura O'Connell, Mick Flannery, Moya Brennan, Liam O'Maonlai, Imelda May, Dervish, The Chieftains, Seamus Begley and Nuala Kennedy.
These join a first-class international line-up featuring Ry Cooder, Joe Pernice of The Pernice Brothers, Natalie Merchant and English folk stars Eliza Carthy and Kate Rusby.
Looks like we have a lot more ties to Glasgow than a shared obsession with the Hoop dreams of Parkhead.
