Ireland's William and Kate fell in love over talk of a fertiliser spinner

Friday April 29 2011

IRELAND celebrated its own William and Kate 'royal wedding' yesterday -- but the photos were taken on a dairy farm, rather than in Westminster Abbey.

Prince William fell in love with Kate Middleton when she wore a see-through dress at a St Andrew's University student fundraiser.

But the romance between Catherine 'Kate' Buckley and William Casey was kindled when he asked her in a Cork nightclub if she wanted to go with him to see a fertiliser spinner he was thinking of buying.

Catherine, of Kilcorney, and William of Berrings, Co Cork, never got to go on their agri-machinery date -- but their joint love of farming was the spark for true romance.

The young couple were married in Kilcorney Church in north Cork yesterday in glorious sunshine and they head off on Monday on a honeymoon cruise around the Mediterranean.

After the wedding, they had a small reception in Kilcorney before hosting their wedding celebration in the Malton Hotel in Killarney, with 300 guests.

Catherine -- a former Miss Macra na Feirme -- will live in Berrings with her new husband.

"We both love farming and I suppose that was one of the things that helped us get on so well."
