THE Irish film industry is celebrating after it was announced that a new drama inspired by the story of 'Peter Pan' and boasting more visual effects than 'Avatar' will be shot here.

'Neverland', a prequel to the story of Peter Pan, Captain Hook and the Lost Boys, has a star-studded cast, including Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel and Oscar nominated Bob Hoskins.

Split into two 90-minute episodes, it will begin filming in Genoa in Italy next week before moving to Dublin shortly afterwards. Locations in the capital have yet to be confirmed.

It is being produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films in association with Syfy channel and is commissioned by Sky Movies HD.

The script has been written by Nick Willing, the director responsible for re-working several classic novels for television including 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Alice in Wonderland'.

Announcing details of the production yesterday, Alan Moloney of Parallel Films said he was delighted the drama will be filmed in Ireland.

"The story of 'Peter Pan' is one that resonates for every generation. Nick has brilliantly crafted something that makes sense of the story we all know and love.

"He takes us back in time and gives us the origins of Peter and Hook's story in a way that will open this world up to everyone, no matter what their age," he added.
