'I know where you are' - gang threatens rival on YouTube

By Barry Duggan

Thursday June 11 2009

Members of the notorious McCarthy-Dundon gang have sent out a threat to the leader of their feud rivals on the YouTube website.

Convicted criminal John Dundon, who fled the country following a high-profile murder last year, brazenly warned his gang's sworn enemy Christy Keane: "I know where you are."

Fugitive Dundon posted the threat on youtube.com on Tuesday, despite the fact his gang are under the intense scrutiny of the gardai following the murder of innocent businessman Roy Collins (35) in April.

A garda source last night said it is not clear if the video material could be used as evidence in future criminal trials against McCarthy-Dundon gang members.

"That is a matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions. It is their call. It all depends on whether the DPP believes an offence has been committed," he said.

On the video, Dundon (29) poses alongside a top of the range C-class Mercedes and says: "Christy, if you're looking for me, I'm somewhere in Europe, but I know where you are."

His younger brother, Ger Dundon (22) calls out: "See you soon, motherf***er."

Two other Limerick men are also on the video and John boasts that one of them may be his getaway driver.

Emerging from the sunroof of the expensive Mercedes, John poses as rifle-weilding gunman and says: "I might come out of the roof that way."

John Dundon was released from jail last July after he was sentenced to four-and-a-half years imprisonment for threatening to kill State witness and nephew of Kieran Keane, Owen Treacy.

Hiding

He fled Limerick in the wake of a high profile murder in the city last year and is believed to be hiding out in London.

A bench warrant in connection with public order offences has been issued for John's arrest and is still outstanding.

The Irish Independent has learned that Ger Dundon returned to Limerick yesterday along with another member of the criminal outfit.

The pair left Limerick last month and spent time with John Dundon in London.

The gang's associate is aged in his early 20s and was arrested by gardai in the aftermath of the Roy Collins murder and questioned for a week before being released without charge.

He then fled to the UK but has now returned to Limerick.

The registration plates of the dark coloured Mercedes in the internet video are covered with plastic and the vehicle comes with a full body kit and chrome pack, including alloy wheels.

It is estimated to cost in excess of €70,000.

Grandfather Christy Keane (48) walked free from Portlaoise prison last February having completed almost seven-and-a-half years of a 10-year prison sentence after he was caught with €240,000 worth of cannabis in St Mary's Park, Limerick, in 2001. While he was incarcerated, the McCarthy-Dundons became the city's most feared operators.

The criminals, who are based in the Ballinacurra-Weston area, capitalised on Christy's imprisonment and gained control of the drugs trade with the assistance of northside figures after they murdered rival crime boss, Kieran Keane -- Christy's brother -- in 2003.

Despite the public outrage following the murder of Roy Collins two months ago, the Limerick gang remains active.

On May 28 last, gardai stopped a car on the M7 motorway outside Portlaoise and found four shotguns and two rifles.

The weapons had been collected in Dublin and were on route to Limerick.

John Dundon's brother Wayne is due to be released from prison next year after he threatened to kill barman Ryan Lee in 2004. His other brother Dessie is serving a life sentence for the murder of Kieran Keane.
