GARDAI are hunting for a Samurai sword-wielding man who raided a petrol station.

The robber produced the three-foot long sword from his tracksuit bottoms when he burst into the shop at the Eglington service station, off the N11 road at Cabinteely village in south Dublin.

He produced a black bag, ordering the terrified shop assistant to hand over the takings. The raider threatened customers and became agitated, knocking items from a shelf.

He banged the sword on the counter and used it to prod the assistant, who was not injured. The robbery, which netted less than €100, took place at around 12.40am on Sunday, February 5 and the swordsman was caught on CCTV camera.

Gardai, who are showing the footage on tonight's RTE 'Crimecall' programme, have appealed for help in identifying the raider.

He was described as 5ft 11 tall, about 20 years old, wearing a woolly hat, white and blue Columbia jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.
