Hills will be alive to sound of Ole Ole Ole as Trap and Enda head for the heights

THE hills will be alive with the sound of OLE, OLE, OLE, OLE, after the Taoiseach announced that he and Giovanni Trapattoni are to climb Croagh Patrick "four or five weeks'' before the Irish football team head to Poland for the Euro finals.

Enda Kenny was speaking at the Mayo Person of the Year Award dinner in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on Saturday night when he revealed that he and Trap would be following in the footsteps of St Patrick.

And Mr Kenny intends to lead his own Enda's Army up to the top of the Reek, all in a good cause.

"I expect that we'll get five or six thousand people, throw in 20-quid-a-head, we'll all climb the holy mountain," he explained.

"We'll divide it up among a few local charities and we'll send Trap, after his trip to the top with Kenny, out to the finals," he said to cheers.

All members of the team are barred from taking part, for fear that one would take a tumble on the notoriously treacherous slopes.

Mr Kenny is no stranger to the Mayo mountain, nor will he find the ascent too much of a challenge, having made it up Mount Kilimanjaro on another charity climb.

As for the Irish boss, in 2008 he promised to take on the challenge when Ireland qualified for a major championship.

But please, Enda, just don't let Trap trip.
