High-rise lifts grounded in row

Saturday March 20 2010

A UNION has called for talks as residents of Ballymun's remaining tower blocks have been have been six weeks without lifts.

A dispute between TEEU and Pickerings Lifts over redundancies that began early last month is still going on, with little sign of a resolution.

As many as 24 of the 32 lifts operated by the company are now broken down.

The TEEU claimed the company had confiscated its members' vans and had their mobile phones switched off due to the dispute so it could not offer a breakdown service. It accused the firm of refusing to attend the Labour Court.
