Two 30-year-prison sentences and a 25-year sentence have been handed down to the three Englishmen involved in the country's biggest-ever cocaine seizure.

Judge Sean O Donnabhain said it was obvious that Martin Wanden, Joe Daly and Perry Wharrie were fully committed and dedicated to the drug-smuggling operation, which was at the top level of the scale.

It emerged in the sentencing hearing that Wharrie has a conviction for murder in the UK, while Wanden has a conviction in France for smuggling drugs and banned goods.

The three, who are all in their 40s, were convicted yesterday of charges relating to the seizure of €440m worth of cocaine from the sea at Dunlough Bay, west Cork, on July 2nd last year.
