Two 30-year-prison sentences and a 25-year sentence have been handed down to the three Englishmen involved in the country's biggest-ever cocaine seizure.
Judge Sean O Donnabhain said it was obvious that Martin Wanden, Joe Daly and Perry Wharrie were fully committed and dedicated to the drug-smuggling operation, which was at the top level of the scale.
It emerged in the sentencing hearing that Wharrie has a conviction for murder in the UK, while Wanden has a conviction in France for smuggling drugs and banned goods.
The three, who are all in their 40s, were convicted yesterday of charges relating to the seizure of 440m worth of cocaine from the sea at Dunlough Bay, west Cork, on July 2nd last year.
