Girl, 6, is latest victim of gangland violence
A six-year-old girl has become the latest victim of the gangland feud in Limerick.
She became caught up in an incident yesterday afternoon when shots were fired during an exchange involving two cars.
Yesterday's events unfolded when the young child was caught in deadly crossfire in the incident involving two vehicles in the Keyes Park area of Southill.
She was playing in the front garden of a house in Limerick City's Lilac Court when the gun was fired shortly after 3pm. She was rushed to the Mid Western Regional hospital but her injuries are not believed to be serious and she was released from hospital last night.
Gardai in Roxboro are currently investigating the shooting, --which happened less than 50 yards from where another child was shot and injured in 2006.
The latest shooting comes less than a month after a truce had apparently been agreed by the city's two main criminal gangs, who have been involved in the country's most infamous feud, one that has claimed the lives of 10 men and involved a series of shootings in the city.
Tensions were already high in the city last week before the latest shooting incident following the return to Limerick of Gerard Dundon.
He had fled following the brutal slayings of James Cronin and Mark Moloney in early April.
