Gillian's long walk to rub shoulders with the stars

SHE hiked 300km through the muddy and rainy German landscape. She enjoyed all Berlin had to offer before rubbing shoulders with some of the music industry's biggest stars.
Gillian Deegan (21) proved she was just as good as the Backstreet Boys, David Hasselhoff and Jesse Medcalf when she presented the Best New Act award to Lady Gaga at the MTV European Music Awards in Berlin last night.
The Waterford IT design student mingled backstage with Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Green Day, Shakira and the Foo Fighters before presenting the coveted award. Other presenters included the Jonas Brothers, Joss Stone and Lil Kim.
A talented dancer and choreographer, Gillian won "The Fanwalk" competition, which was organised by the show's main sponsors, Sony Ericsson.
The Kildare native walked from Hamburg to Berlin with 99 other competitors from around the world before being voted by them to present the award. Ms Deegan said she had what it takes to be a "Fanwalk". "I've been training in walking all my life now and I've gotten pretty damn good at it."
