George is 'Hooked' on classics with his star-studded charity CD of duets Oxegen is named world's 'Top Festival' Foinse is free with 'Irish Independent' D4 Hotels check out Travel Market

Sunday November 15 2009

NEWSTALK presenter George Hook has released a charity album of cover versions of classic songs.

The CD Duets, which was launched on Friday's Late Late Show, also features performances from Brian Kennedy, Dana, Jack L and Eleanor McEvoy.

Brent Pope and John Giles also perform with the radio host on the album which has been released to raise funds for the Romanian orphans charity Comber.

Oxegen is named world's 'Top Festival'

The Oxegen music festival was among the big winners at this year's Billboard Touring Awards, taking home the honour for 'Top Festival' worldwide.

The Billboard Touring Awards, now in its sixth year, is based on worldwide data reported each year to the US chart compilers.

Denis Desmond, of MCD Productions, said: "It's always great to win awards. However, of much greater importance is the fact that Irish events have been recognised globally which is a great tribute to both Irish music fans and the Irish music industry as a whole."

Foinse is free with 'Irish Independent'

Ireland's biggest Irish language weekly newspaper Foinse will be distributed free alongside the country's largest-selling quality daily, the Irish Independent, from this Wednesday onwards.

The new arrangement will give Foinse a weekly circulation of 152,204.

And in the next edition, readers will be able to enjoy contributions from Daithi O Se, MP O Conaola, Blathnaid Ni Dhonnchadha, Gemma Ni Chionnaith and Hector O hEochagain.

D4 Hotels check out Travel Market

IT may be one of Ireland's worst years on record for tourism, but D4 Hotels still travelled to the World Travel Market in the London Docklands last week.

"The reaction we got was tremendous," said Anthony Kelly, director of sales and marketing at D4. "People from all over the world stopped at our stand. Over the three days we garnered an exceptional amount of business from all over the world.

"In fact, we have over 1,000 follow-ups to make, so that will keep us busy."
