Gardai probe assault as man dies from injuries
A Limerick man died in his home over the weekend shortly after being assaulted by two men who were known to him, writes Barry Duggan.
Mike Molloy (39), from Garryglass Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, died on Friday night/Saturday morning after he was attacked near his home.
Gardai were alerted on Saturday afternoon when the dead man was discovered in his home by family members.
A garda spokesman said last night that the death was being treated as suspicious. It is believed Mr Molloy died from serious head injuries.
The assault is not connected to any of the city's criminal gangs.
Gardai believe that Mr Molloy sustained the injuries after being attacked in a car by two men outside his home. Officers think he may have refused to get out of the car and the men then turned on him.
