Gardai feared man who died in cell was armed

Thursday September 09 2010

GARDAI were forced to restrain three men -- including the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of a mother of one -- because they might have had a firearm, an inquest was told yesterday, writes Georgina O'Halloran.

Dwayne Foster (24), of Woodbank Avenue, Finglas, Dublin, was detained at Coolock garda station, Dublin, for questioning about the shooting of Donna Cleary in Coolock two days earlier when he was discovered unresponsive on March 7, 2006.

A post-mortem by deputy state pathologist Dr Michael Curtis found Mr Foster died from methadone intoxication.

Dr Curtis found 34 injuries on Mr Foster's body caused by blunt force trauma, which did not cause or contribute to death.

The inquest continues today.
