Fugitive solicitor Lynn fails to show at family's funeral

FUGITIVE solicitor Michael Lynn did not turn up at his father-in-law's funeral Mass yesterday.

Teddy Murphy, the father of Lynn's wife, Brid, died earlier this week following a long battle with cancer.

Ms Murphy was visibly upset at the funeral in Tulla, Co Clare, yesterday but Lynn, who has been missing for around two years with fraudulent mortgage debts of €80m, did not attend the service.

Speculation has been mounting that the on-the-run solicitor plans to return to Ireland voluntarily.

Attempts in August by the Hungarian authorities to extradite him failed.

He is under investigation by the Garda Bureau of Fraud of Investigation but no criminal charges have been brought against him.

Ms Murphy, who is a nurse, was comforted by family and friends at the service in St Peter and Paul's Church. She has been in regular contact with the Mayo-born lawyer since his disappearance and revealed last year that she had spent a weekend with him in Bulgaria before he moved on to Portugal.

She has claimed that she is entitled to half the proceeds from their dream home, Glenlion House, in Howth, Co Dublin, which was sold for €4.7m.

Her father was buried in Tulla Cemetery following the service and the family requested that donations be made to the Irish Cancer Society.
