Police hunt 'woman in bag' killer

Murder squad detectives are trying to trace the family of an African woman whose body was found in a suitcase beside a road. The woman, believed to be in her mid-20s, was dumped in the large travel bag in the Blackhorse Avenue area of north Dublin some time on Saturday.

FRIENDS of murdered student Rudo Mawere are raising money for her family to help with the costs of repatriating her body.

Patrick Banda, of the Malawi Association in Dublin, said the money was to assist the family in repatriating Ms Mawere's body to Malawi and other costs associated with her tragic death.

"They definitely want to bring her body back," he said. It is understood her immediate family do not intend to travel to Ireland but a distant relation may accompany her body home.

Mr Banda said they were hoping to organise a service on Sunday to mark her death.

Work colleagues at St Luke's Hospital in Dublin where she worked part-time as a cleaner are holding a memorial service at the hospital's chapel today.

Zimbabwean Jason Dube, suspected of strangling the 26-year-old and placing her body in a travel bag, was found dead in England on Wednesday.

It appears he had killed himself. Kent Police yesterday formally identified his body.

It is believed the man had been romantically involved with Ms Mawere and they had a row as he was using her bank card.

Account details for contributions to the fund: reference 'Rudo' at Permanent TSB 99-06-58 A/C No 17197136, O'Connell Street, Dublin. People can also contact the Honorary Consul for Malawi, Fr Patrick O'Malley, 21 Leeson Park, Dublin 6, at 01 4960888.
