FG TD Enright speaks out about her own cancer scare

Fine Gael TD for Laois-Offaly Olwyn Enright revealed yesterday that she had found a lump in her breast two years ago, but she had got the all clear. Her GP referred her to a hospital in Dublin rather than the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, she said. Olwyn visited women affected by the breast cancer scandal in the Cuisle Centre yesterday.

Olwyn Enright, the Fine Gael TD, has spoken of her own breast cancer scare. Speaking from Portloaise yesterday, where she had come to talk with constituents affected by the latest breast cancer scandal, she revealed that she was sent to Dublin for tests instead of Portlaoise where almost 100 women were mis- diagnosed.
She revealed that she had found a lump in her breast two years ago, but because she had private health insurance she was referred to a Dublin specialist.
"I got the all clear after all the tests thankfully and I had health insurance. I was seen privately," she said.
Though reluctant to talk about her own personal worry in relation to breast cancer she said it was possible that in different circumstances she could have been caught up in the same anxious wait being suffered by many of her constituents. "But this isn't about me, it's about those women in there," she said. "They are anxious, angry," she said.
Deputy Enright said that she had lost all faith in Minister Mary Harney and would be voting against her in the no confidence motion next week.
Asked why her GP had sent her to Dublin for test in a Dublin hospital rather than Portlaoise she said, "I didn't query it at the time I was just anxious to get it looked at."
