FF ministers too ill to run make public return

Monday December 12 2011

Two former Fianna Fail ministers who retired due to health issues prior to the general election are returning to public life as sports administrators, writes John Fallon.

Noel Treacy, who held a number of Minister of State positions during his three decades as a deputy, wants the top GAA position in his native Galway.

And former Justice Minister Dermot Ahern is involved in negotiations as a trust takes over ownership of Dundalk FC.

"Dermot attended two meetings as a mediator. . . and was very helpful," said a spokesperson for Dundalk FC Trust.

Noel Treacy is in a two-horse race to become chairman of Galway county board at their annual convention on Thursday night.
