Ex-worker protests over €92,000 unpaid wages
A BUSINESSMAN who once operated a string of high-profile restaurants has failed to pay an ex-employee the €92,000 he owes him for years of slave-like labour.
The Migrant Rights Centre Ireland last night held a protest outside Poppadom restaurant in Dublin's Newlands Cross.
It is demanding that Amjad Hussain (48) finally pay Muhammad Younis money he is owed for years of gruelling work there.
Mr Younis, a father-of-nine from Pakistan, has still not received the €92,000 which the Labour Court ruled last September he was owed by Mr Hussein.
This was for working up to 77 hours a week between 2002 and 2009 as chef at the Poppadom takeaway in Newlands Cross for as little as 51c an hour.
When the Irish Independent contacted Poppadom yesterday for a comment from Mr Hussain, an employee, said they would pass on our request, but another staff member later claimed he no longer owned or worked in the business.
