ESB plans to cut carbon emissions by 30pc
The ESB has launched a sustainability programme which aims to cut carbon emissions from its internal business activities by 30pc within four years.
The programme includes a charter of sustainability objectives focussing on how the ESB will reduce its impact on the environment at every level.
Earlier this year, the ESB launched a €22bn investment programme with the aim of cutting carbon emissions from its power generation plants to net-zero by 2035.
Measures include greening the ESB's transport fleet with the introduction of electric and bio-fuel vehicles, beginning in September; and supporting the wider electrification of Ireland's transport fleet.
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan said the programme should serve as best practice for other semi-state companies and across the entire public service.
