Candidate's ward woe
Wednesday May 20 2009
A clerical error has caused an electoral headache for one of Ireland's biggest local authorities.
Cork City Council now faces a legal puzzle as it tries to resolve a problem over the mistaken nomination of a sitting councillor in the wrong ward. Annette Spillane is defending her seat in Cork North East -- but her nomination papers have been recorded for the Cork North Central ward.
It is now thought that Environment Minister John Gormley may have to be asked to directly intervene to allow Ms Spillane, an independent, to run in the correct council district.
