AN elderly cyclist and a 16-year-old boy have died in separate road crashes.

The cyclist, who was in his early 70s, was killed when he collided with a bus carrying secondary school children at Spiddal, Nobber, in Co Meath, early yesterday afternoon.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later removed to Navan General Hospital.

The accident happened at about 2.15pm. None of the children on the coach were hurt.

In Donegal, a 16-year-old boy was killed instantly when the Toyota Corolla car he was driving crashed into a van on the Letterkenny-to-Derry road, in Co Donegal, on Thursday night. He was named as Noel Manus Boyle, from Manorcunningham. The crash occurred at about 9.20pm on a bend in the N13 road at Moyle, Newtowncunningham.

The injured driver and the two passengers in the van were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

It was the second crash on the stretch of road to claim a young life in two months. In August, Joseph McMenamin (20), also from Manorcunningham, died when the car he was driving crashed at Magherabeg.

A male motorcyclist was in a serious condition in hospital last night after his bike collided with a car outside Drogheda, Co Louth, yesterday afternoon.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after the crash at Newtown Stallabann at about 2.15pm.
