Dunphy wraps up 'Conversations' to focus on football

BROADCASTER Eamon Dunphy will not be returning to the airwaves with his popular Saturday morning radio show 'Conversations with . . .' on RTE Radio 1 in the autumn.
He last night confirmed he had decided not to continue with the programme and instead to focus on football analysis on radio and television.
He is also working on a book, the subject matter of which remains a closely guarded secret.
The national broadcaster issued a statement last night, confirming the station's 10th most popular programme would not return after the summer.
"I have hugely enjoyed the two years on 'Conversations with . . .'," Mr Dunphy said.
"In those two seasons we increased our audience by over 20,000, going from 240,000 to 263,000 listeners," he added yesterday.
He said he also enjoyed meeting some remarkable people, including comedian Des Bishop, filmmaker Neil Jordan, singer Mary Coughlin, athlete Sonia O'Sullivan and others.
This Saturday, Miriam O'Callaghan takes up the slot with her first ever radio solo run.
'Miriam Meets . . .' will hit the airwaves at 9.10am and will run for eight weeks.
Mr Dunphy will continue to play a part in RTE television's soccer output. And he will remain as a regular contributor to RTE radio sports programming.
