Drunk man forces pub closure

Thursday December 09 2004

A JUDGE yesterday ordered closure of a pub because gardai found an incoherent, drunk man leaning against a wall inside.

The Confession Box, Marlborough Street, Dublin, was also fined €150 and ordered to pay staff for the three days it is closed.

Owner Paul Davidson pleaded guilty to breaching Section 41 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2004, barring publicans from allowing drunkenness on the premises.

Dublin District Court heard a garda visited the first floor of the bar at 9.55pm on April 11 last to find the drunken man. Judge Gerard Haughton ordered the premises to close from January 7-9 next. It is the third such order on a city premises in two months. Mother Kelly's and the Master Mariner only had to close for an hour each.
