Deaths fall as drivers take care

THE number of road deaths is heading for a sharp fall this year if drivers continue to be vigilant on the roads, according to the Road Safety Authority.
Better enforcement and adherence to road safety laws appear to be behind the reduction in road deaths this year, said RSA spokesman Brian Farrell.
Close to 300 people lost their lives on the roads by this time last year, but the number of road fatalities to date stood at 261 yesterday.
The news comes as Operation Freeflow got officially under way in the capital yesterday.
The annual multi-agency traffic blitz will see 166 junior gardai working alongside the traffic corps, Dublin Bus and other agencies to ensure that all routes are kept free from obstruction.
