Nightclubs are issued with CCTV ultimatum
Monday December 01 2008
Nightclubs in Connemara may have to pull the plug on the music following a warning by a judge.
No late-night exemptions will be granted to clubs unless each club has properly functioning CCTV coverage, Judge Mary Fahy has warned. Judge Fahy issued the ultimatum after hearing a case in which CCTV footage was produced but could not be viewed because the quality of the pictures was so poor.
A Connemara fisherman, 38-year-old Michael Stuffle, of Ballinaboy, Clifden, was handed a three-month jail sentence for verbally assaulting Aisling Conneely, of Roundstone, at JC's Nightclub in Clifden on November 25 of last year.
His brother, Paul Stuffle (30), of the same address, admitted punching Ms Conneely at the club. Judge Fahy adjourned final determination of his case, opening payment of compensation of €1,500 to Ms Conneely.
