MOTORCYCLE enthusiasts braved freezing weather conditions yesterday in a bid to raise funds for charity.
The Dublin & District Motor Cycle Club attracted 150 people to their annual fancy dress and bike racing event which donates all proceeds to the blind.
People from around the country attended the St Stephen's Day "Trial and Fancy Dress Parade" to help raise an estimated €10,000 for the 'Wireless for the Blind Fund'.
The event has been going since 1951 and has raised more than €156,669 to date.
It helps provide radio's and cassette recorders, talking books and newspapers and taped magazines for the blind.
Hosted at the Slade Crooksling, near Brittas in Dublin, the event kicked off at 1pm with a fancy dress parade for kids and adults.
Among the awards were the youngest fancy dress, best humorous costume, best rider under 16 years and most original costume.
More than 20 motorcyclists then took to the dirt with a fun bike race around the course, bringing smiles from spectators.
Michael Burton from Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, was winner of the adult race, while Bill O'Toole from Kilmacanogue in Wicklow, won the junior race.
