Controversy as delivery menus hit doorsteps

A CONCERNED mother is warning parents to be aware that some head shops now deliver a menu of "legal highs" direct to people's doorsteps.

Homes in north Co Dublin have been leafleted with flyers offering to bring a variety of psychoactive substances direct to houses in the Dublin area for a €10 delivery charge.

The service targets late night revellers as it operates until 4am -- several hours after most pubs and nightclubs shut their doors under the heavily regulated alcohol industry.

A meeting hosted by the National Regional Drugs Task Forces last month to discuss 'legal highs' heard concerns that dozens of new head shops had opened up, with some operating until 4am and some running home delivery services.

Among the "legal highs" on offer for home delivery were "bath salts", priced between €20 to €40. These contain the substance Mephedrone which experts say can result in paranoia and psychosis.
