Conference aims to beat tiger raids
Wednesday December 02 2009
Delegates from 32 countries are attending a two-day conference on devising strategies to prevent tiger kidnapping raids.
The conference, being held in private in Dundalk, Co Louth, was opened yesterday by Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy.
Coroner critical of safety authority
A coroner yesterday criticised the Health and Safety Authority's "poor track record" in dealing with investigations into fatal workplace accidents.
The comments came at the inquest into the death of Padraig Gavigan (41), from Killasser, Swinford, Co Mayo, who died 17 months ago -- after the truck he was driving came into contact with an overhead power cable.
East Mayo coroner Pat O'Connor, voicing concern about delays, granted a final adjournment to March 2 next.
