Border farmers warned to be vigilant

The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers' Association (ICSA) has urged vigilance amongst the farming community in border areas following recent reports of tractor and machinery thefts in the region.

As many as 12 tractors and a huge number of quad bikes have been stolen from farmers in border counties in recent times. Gabriel Gilmartin, president of the ICSA, has said.

"It is very worrying. Farmers are being directly targeted by criminals and the situation is particularly prevalent in the border region.

"In the last week alone, two tractors on the Monaghan-Armagh border were stolen from the same farm and countless other tractors and quads have been targeted over the recent months. It has gotten to be an epidemic at this stage," he said.
