Concerned party leaders prepare SoS call to Mara
FIANNA Fail is preparing to bring back its controversial strategist PJ Mara in a desperate attempt to reverse its decline in popularity.
The 69-year-old last worked for the party as director of elections during the 2007 general election, and has since been engaged in private consultancy work.
However, it is understood that he may be called in as it attempts to reverse its slide in the opinion polls -- with the latest showing its support level at just 28pc.
Mr Mara last night said he had not been approached officially by Fianna Fail headquarters.
"Like a well brought-up young man, it's manners to wait until you're asked. And I haven't been invited to dance yet," he told the Irish Independent.
Mr Mara became Government press officer in 1987 for Charles Haughey and served as Fianna Fail's director of elections under Bertie Ahern.
