STARS from the worlds of sport, media and fashion graced the green carpet at Dublin's Savoy Cinema last night for the Irish premiere of 'Invictus', Clint Eastwood's biopic of Nelson Mandela during the South African rugby World Cup in 1995.

2FM star Gerry Ryan and his partner, UNICEF Ireland director Melanie Verwoerd, joined Ireland and Leinster rugby stars Gert Smal and Malcolm O'Kelly, and Tyrone GAA legend Mickey Harte at the screening.

Fashion designer John Rocha and his wife Odette and snooker champion Ken Doherty also attended the special screening which was co-sponsored by Sport Against Racism Ireland.

The film was directed by legendary Hollywood actor Clint Eastwood, who in latter years has carved out a towering reputation as a director.

It tells the story of how the newly elected South African president inspired the nation through sport during the lead-up to his country's hosting of the rugby World Cup.

It stars Hollywood veteran Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela while Matt Damon plays the South African rugby team captain, Francois Pienarr.

'Invictus' will be in cinemas across Ireland from Friday.
