Classic entertainment from the reigning masters of electronic pop
IN 1987, the Pet Shop Boys' 'It's A Sin' was the seventh highest selling single that year. The top spot went to Rick Astley, and the second to Starship.
But time is a natural distiller, and while Rick and Starship's legacy is a place on School Disco compilation albums, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are still churning out the hits.
Their longevity shows that they're masters of their niche: not many acts purvey dance-friendly pop hits laced with razor-sharp humour.
And so the concert in Kilmainham is unashamedly -- in fact, proudly -- a greatest hits package spanning the breadth of the duo's 26 years together. It's no secret that the band harbour a large gay following, and even less under wraps is that they know how to have fun.
Tennant appears in a suit and top hat, while Chris's hoodie and cap combo would have you believe he forgot to dress for the show, if there weren't two clones of him in the same outfit on stage.
But it's not as if classic tracks like 'West End Girls', 'Left To My Own Devices', or even newer tracks such as 'I'm With Stupid,' need dressing up.
"Tonight we're going to have an evening of electronic entertainment," said Neil at the start. By the end, he delivered exactly that.
