Clamper attacked with hammer

GARDAI last night appealed for help from taxi drivers who may have witnessed a vicious hammer attack on a clamper that left him fighting for his life in hospital. The attack happened at a car park on Werburgh Street, Dublin, about 10pm on Saturday, November 14. The victim, in his 30s, remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital with head injuries.

He was attacked as he attached a clamp to a car on the night of the Ireland-France soccer match at Croke Park. Information should be given to Pearse Street garda station at 01 6669000 or the garda confidential line at 1-800-666-111.

Stranded Budget travellers return

A GROUP of tourists arrived home from their holidays last night on a plane which was specially chartered following the collapse of Budget Travel. The 100 holiday makers are the first to return after the collapse of the firm.

A special office has been set up by Budget Travel and the Commission for Aviation Regulation to deal with the backlash, which left almost 750 people overseas on holidays. There are now about 650 Budget Travel tourists remaining across Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Madeira.

Measles outbreak sparks jab plea

THE HSE last night urged parents to have their children immunised after five youngsters were admitted to hospital since an outbreak of measles in Galway.

Six suspected cases of measles have occurred in children and teenagers in Galway city in the last week.

Man stabbed in neck with a fork

A MAN was in a stable condition in hospital last night after suffering stab wounds to the neck and abdomen during a row.

The incident happened at an apartment in Castle Street in Carlow town at about 11.30pm on Wednesday night, when emergency workers found the 28-year-old victim with a number of wounds. It's understood he was stabbed with a kitchen fork. Gardai in Carlow have appealed for information on the incident and witnesses are asked to call the station on 059-9131505.

Suspect quizzed after cash heist

A MAN was still being questioned by gardai last night about an armed robbery on a cash-in-transit van on the northside of Dublin.

Detectives arrested the 36-year-old suspect shortly after the raid on the van outside the post office at Ashtown Grove in Cabra.
