A 23-YEAR-OLD New Ross man was put on probation for 12 months yesterday having pleaded guilty to downloading child pornography.

William John Roche, Bawnjames, Rosbercon, New Ross, had pleaded guilty at a previous sitting of Wexford Circuit Court to having child pornography in his possession on May 27, 2002, contrary to Section 61 of the Child Trafficking and Pornographic Act 1968.

Prosecuting Counsel Rosario Boyle told yesterday's sitting of Wexford Circuit Court that the defendant had pleaded guilty on November 18, 2003, when he came before the court. In the meantime he continued to receive counselling and was referred to the Granada Institute.

Det Garda Mary Wallace told the court that gardai found 41 stand-alone PC images of children involved in sexual acts. She said that a credit card had been used.
